the-solo-project celebrates its tenth anniversary with a fresh start at a new venue. The property «Zu den Hirzen» set at the gates of Basel, very near to Messe Basel, offers a special space to expand the program significantly to become an event platform.

The centerpiece will still be the fair with its 40 to 50 galleries. They will literally place their 1500 sqm tent in the garden of the estate.

The villa, its park and a glass pavilion beg to try new things. That’s why the-solo-project 2017-edition offers not only high-profile art but also talks, concerts, a daily breakfast and evening events as well as a shop. A externally curated show will transform the brick villa into a temporary art space and the park will become an open-air art event — best en-joyed with a drink in your hand.

«Zu den Hirzen», a lush park estate just minutes away from Messeplatz, offers the luxury of space, and significant expansion: the-solo-project art show becomes an art event platform. These elegant surroundings: the villa, its park, the glass pavilion, demand a game-changer.

In 2017, the-solo-project delivers not only high-profile art, but also public talks, concerts and events. Following its very own concept of curatorial cooperation with its galleries and artists, the show transforms the villa into an art space. The park becomes a curated open-air art event space.

the-solo-project was founded in 2008 by Paul Kusseneers, director of Kusseneers Gallery in Brussels. His vision was to  create a sophisticated and engaging new art fair model.

Each presentation at the fair is a solo exhibition, giving collectors, curators, and art lovers a fully immersive experience of artists and their works. The curatorial collaboration with the participating gallery is integral to the concept. Participation is strictly by invitation only.

For nine years, the-solo-project has dedicated its focus to international contemporary art galleries which have demonstrated a keen eye, savvy artistic direction, relevant programming, and most importantly, a commitment to promising and emerging artists.
